Xbox Game Pass surprisingly loaded to start October 2022

Spooky season is upon us, and a low-key October for Xbox Game Pass brings Rat Kings, body horror HR Giger, and trick-or-treat twee to celebrate. Whether you just want to play the Middle Ages against strangers online in Chivalry 2 or bask in the striking beauty of A Plague Tale: RequiemA beautifully dark portrayal of war-torn 14th-century France, Microsoft’s Netflix-like subscription service has plenty to offer this month.

Here is everything arriving and leaving Xbox Game Pass in the coming weeks:

October 4

Chivalry 2 (Cloud, Console and PC)

October 6

medieval dynasty (Xbox X/S series)

The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season (CP)

The Walking Dead: Season 2 (CP)

October 11

costume quest (Cloud and Console)

Eville (Console and PC)

October 13

Dyson Sphere program (CP)

October 14

Contempt (Cloud, PC and Xbox Series X|S)

October 18

A Plague Tale: Requiem (Cloud, PC and Xbox Series X|S)

Released last year Chivalry 2 is a first-person multiplayer combat game in which players swing, slice and fight their way to victory on a medieval battlefield. It’s intimidating but great fun once you relax and give yourself permission to have fun and be silly. A perfect addition to the low-stakes Game Pass buffet. Contempt, meanwhile, is Ebb Software’s first take on exploring a mysterious world full of stomach and flesh-churning phenomena. It’s been delayed a whole lot and a flashpoint for kickstarter dramabut I hope he delivers.

I’ll try not to hold a pillow in front of my face too much while playing Scorn.

A Plague Tale: Requiemon the other hand, is Asobo Studio’s follow-up to the disturbing rat infestation of 2019, A Plague Tale: Innocence. Hope everyone had a chance to check this out before it fell out of the Game Pass rotation last month. It was a moody adventure game that didn’t overplay its hand, and although Requiem seems intended to expand the action of the game, I hope it stays grounded. And if you have a PC, Dyson Sphere program is one of the best space base builder of 2021.

Game Pass is also losing a few games in the coming weeks, but thankfully nothing too devastating. The following items have all disappeared since October 15:

  • Bloodroots (Cloud, Console and PC)
  • Echo generation (Cloud, Console and PC)
  • In the pit (Cloud, Console and PC)
  • ring of pain (Cloud, Console and PC)
  • Sable (Cloud, Console and PC)
  • The good life (Cloud, Console and PC)

Sableartistic style is one of the most striking in recent memory, and Bloodroots is a pretty decent top-down beat ’em up. I’ll check ring of pain, which I had never heard of before, but is a card-based roguelike dungeon crawler. All my favorite Steam tags tingle.

The Game Pass library has ebb and flow in recent months, but after a drier period earlier in the year things are starting to pick up. Most Big Hit Releases of 2022 have been postponed to 2023but there’s plenty to come on Microsoft’s subscription service at least to avoid the drought.
