Tronsmart Battle Gaming earphone review

Headphones seemingly cost a dime a dozen these days and it’s easy to find something that fits your needs or budget. These wireless audio devices have become the darling of mobile devices in recent years as the headphone jack is slowly dying. Tronsmart, a pioneer in this market for some time, recently sent us its latest offering, the Battle Gaming headphones.

What the new Games nickname bring to the Battle helmet? Let’s find out in this in-depth review.

The overall construction of the Battle headphones isn’t going to be overwhelming. You get the familiar in-ear tear with a rod we’re all familiar with at this point. On the outside of each you’ll find a Tronsmart logo that doubles as a touchscreen control area.

I’ll note that the Battle Buds stem area is a bit shorter than the other models we’ve reviewed recently. I’m not sure if this was attributed to performance issues, but I could see that some users might have mounting preferences for one or the other.

Fit and sound

The fit of the Battle headphones has been pleasant for me so far. As mentioned, this is a personal preference, but I find the silicon-free style that Tronsmart implemented here works best for my ears. The headphones fit comfortably in my ears and their light weight makes them easy to wear all day.

The audio experience is also quite good with these little headphones doing a decent job of balancing sound and volume. Will it appeal to audiophiles? No, but it makes for a great working day filled with music and / or podcasts without any issues.

We’d be silly not to mention that this is where Battle gets the gaming label as well. Tronsmart has included the ability to put the headphones into low latency mode. This takes the 13mm speakers a step further to deliver even better sound.

While this is noticeable, I have found it greatly affects Bluetooth connectivity. I have had times when leaving my phone in the next room 10 feet away caused audio reception to skip. I even had a case of thicker jeans causing the same issue with my pocket phone.

Touch controls

A modern wireless headset is not complete without a capacitive touch zone. The heads of Tronsmart Battle are here for you. The logo on each earpiece also serves as a touch zone. Let’s go through the list of available gestures.

A single press on the left or right Battle earphone will decrease and increase the volume of the currently playing track. Double-tap to play and pause audio or answer or end a phone call. A triple tap turns low latency gaming mode on or off.

I’m not a big fan of the timed takes on headphones with such a small touch footprint, but you also have two such options on the Battle headphones. You can hold the left earbud for two seconds to reject an incoming call. The same cadence on the left earbud will send you a track if playing music playlists and a long press on the right earbud will move you forward a track.

These gestures or tapping work well most of the time, but I found them to be slightly less compatible with activation than some other headphones I’ve tested. You have to be very thoughtful, especially with the double click to play and pause media.

Tronsmart rates Battle Gaming Headphones for up to 20 hours total with 50% volume and paired with the back case. I found that to be quite precise. I saw results of around 4.5 hours of playback and four full recharges per case charge.

Speaking of the case, there is no wireless charging. I would have expected this feature for a niche market of power users like gamers. Luckily, fast charging is available for quick charging of the headphones, and the USB-C can complete the case in two hours.

The Tronsmart Battle Gaming Headphones are a decent set of headphones that take advantage of an industry buzzword. Without the gaming tag, it matches most other wireless headphones in the $ 50 price bracket.

While I don’t think these live up to the marketing hype, you can still find them on sale already. At the time of posting this review, I’ve seen them listed for just $ 34.99 on AliExpress. I think they make a great addition to anyone’s travel bag for the price.
