Survivor announced, release in 2023 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC
Earlier this year, EA officially confirmed that a direct follow-up to 2019 Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was one of three new star wars games in the works at Respawn Entertainment, and since then several details about the game have leaked. Many of these have now been confirmed, thanks to the game’s official announcement at Star Wars Celebration (which also leaked not too long ago).
True to the leaks, the game is called Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Set five years after the events of Fallen order, he sees Cal Kestis and BD-1 return for another perilous journey. Kal, as one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy, is still on the run from the Empire and its Inquisitors, and it looks like the Grand Inquisitor – who was a shadowy but invisible presence in the first game – will have a much bigger role to play this time. He’s the focus of the game’s trailer, which you can check out below, while an unknown person is also shown floating in a tank of bacta, as Cal and BD look on.
As the leaks claim, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor won’t be cross-gen, and Stig Asmussen – who will once again serve as game director – says this will allow the game to offer more dynamic combat.
“Even before I’ve finished Jedi: Fallen Order, our team had a vision for how to lead the adventure for Cal, BD and the crew in the sequel,” Asmussen explains in the press release. “For Jedi: Survivorwe work closely with Lucasfilm Games to build on the legacy of Jedi: Fallen Order. We’re leveraging cutting-edge technology to create more dynamic Jedi combat and cinematic storytelling to develop Cal’s story as he matures and survives the dark times. We look forward to sharing more about the game with the world later this year.
“Millions of star wars Fans were captivated by the story of Cal Kestis, and we are thrilled to work with the world-class developers at Respawn to continue this epic story,” said Douglas Reilly, Vice President of Lucasfilm Games. “We couldn’t be happier to reveal star wars Jedi: Survivor and this next chapter in Cal Kestis’ journey with players around the world.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was released in 2023 (early 2023, according to leaks) for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. As mentioned above, Asmussen said more information will be revealed later this year, though exactly when that will happen remains to be seen. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.
