Super Mario Bros Movie Trailer Teases The Game’s Iconic Character’s Voice And Fans React

It’s been a little over a year since the first visuals for The movie Super Mario Bros. have been revealed. After at least one delay, there’s finally a trailer and further confirmation on the release date. Not only that, we finally hear Chris Pratt’s rendition of the Brooklyn-born Italian plumber. Unfortunately, fans aren’t entirely happy with what they’ve heard.

The trailer shown during the Super Mario Bros Direct on October 7, 2022. It opens with an ominous first look at a depiction of one of Bowser’s Flying Fortresses before he attacks a kingdom populated by penguins, likely an homage to the Snow Kingdom of Super Mario Odyssey. Penguins’ first appearance in the Mario universe was actually before the premiere Super Mario Bros. game, in Pinball (1984). Of course, Mario himself predates the rescue of Paulina from Donkey Kong in the 1981 arcade game, donkey kong.

Filled with an impressive all-star cast, this cinematic take on Mario looks more promising than 1993’s Super Mario Bros. film. This ill-fated version starred Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo, who even Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto didn’t like too much. The company at the head of Super Mario Bros. : the film effort is Illumination Entertainment, the creators of the massive hit Minions film series.

A number of fans were really hoping to hear Mario Charles Martinet’s voice actor. There are, of course, nostalgic fans who would have loved to hear Lou Albano, the Mario character and voice actor from the 1989 TV series. Super Mario Bros. Super Show ! but sadly Lou passed away in 2009. Nevertheless, Chris Pratt took over, and fans aren’t too fond of the voice so far.

Jack Black’s King Koopa (Bowser) and Keegan-Michael Key’s Toad really look like they’ve worked to make them more interesting than their own vocals. We honestly think both of these voices sounded fantastic in the trailer. Some Nintendo fans on social media feel that Chris’ rendition sounds too much like his own voice. One fan even posted a clip from the French dub trailer saying he was going to watch this because it sounds much closer to Martinet’s version.

Still, it looks like Pratt is trying to do a bit of a Brooklyn-esque voice when you hear him shout “Mushroom Kingdom, here we come!” It’s by no means quite accurate, but it was at least trying to get a little “New York-ish” – we think. That would make sense given that the plumber’s origin story places, in the current context, his non-fantasy home in Brooklyn, New York. Most of the time, however, we expect to hear Pratt’s voice, as the initial voice was undoubtedly Chris Pratt’s.

There are, of course, plenty of other well-known voice actors we haven’t heard yet, we see Luigi, but we don’t hear Charlie Day’s version. We know that Seth Rogen is Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen is Cranky Kong, and Anya Taylor-Joy, who played Beth Harmon in Queen’s Gambit, is the voice of Princess Peach. Even though fans are a bit disappointed with Chris Pratt’s voice acting, many are absolutely stunned by the beautiful visuals placed in this movie. Super Mario Bros. The film is set to release on April 7, 2023 in theaters and we’re probably going to see it.
