Mobile beats sailors in a non-conference game

BRUNSWICK, Georgia – The College of Coastal Georgia Mariners lost to non-conference rivals the University of Mobile. The Rams handled the Mariners 72-59.

Notable statistics:

  • Three Mariners finished in double digits against the Rams. Nicole Hofmann was the top scorer with 12 points. She shot 44.4% from the field, 42.9% from the arc and 50.0% from the free throw line.
  • Kaliyah Little and SaQ Will Porter each had 10 points for the Mariners.
  • Porter was also Coastal Georgia’s top rebounder. She has totaled eight boards, including three offensive.
  • Ca’Vashia Johnson, Joyce Jordan, Hofmann and Andrea Shire each recorded two assists for the Mariners.
  • Johnson and Porter each had two interceptions per person.

Game summary:

The Rams scored four unanswered runs to start, but the Mariners quickly picked up the pace and took a 5-4 lead. The Mariners held Mobile scoreless for nearly four minutes. At the first media timeout, the score was 8-8. At the end of the first quarter, the Mariners were down one point, 15-14.

The Mariners took the lead at halftime 31-29 after a serious stampede quarterback. The Mariners had three who had six points in the first half. Little had shot 2-7 from the field and 1-1 from the three-point line. Hofmann shot 2-6 from the field and 1-4 from the three-point line. She also added a free throw line. Jordan added 2-6 on the court and 2-4 on the arc.

As a team, the Marines shot 30.0% from the field, 36.4% from the arc and 81.8% from the free throw line at halftime. The Rams had shot 31.3% from the field, 16.7% from the three-point line and 66.7% from the field.

The Mariners lost three points after swapping places with the Rams in the third quarter. The Rams were steadfast in the first three quarters, scoring 15 points in the first, 14 in the second and 15 in the third. Coastal Georgia was less consistent with 14 points in the first, a solid 17 in the second, then just 10 in the third.

Coastal Georgia couldn’t keep the game close in the fourth quarter. In the last ten, Mobile has totaled 28 points, their best quarterback by nearly double. The Rams also more than doubled the rebounds in the fourth quarter. Coastal Georgia also had their best quarter of the game with 18 points.

In the end, the Mariners failed to break their losing streak, losing 72-59 to the Mobile University Rams.
