PROVIDENCE, RI – The No. 9 Providence College women’s hockey team skated to their second draw of the weekend series with No. 8 Quinnipiac, 1-1, on Saturday, Oct. 16 in Hamden, Conn.

REMARKS

Bailey burton (Bloomington, Minn.) Received a penalty shot after just 22 seconds of play after Quinnipiac was called in for delaying the game. Burton’s shot was stopped by Corinne Schroeder.

Both teams skated for the first 20 minutes without scoring. Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) recorded 11 saves as the Bobcats outscored the Friars, 11-6.

Hayley lunny (Bedford, NY) put the Friars on the board, 1-0, at 6:21. The puck was pulled from the point by Lily martinson (Allen, TX) and Lunny gave him the lead. Martinson’s help was his first collegiate point as a brother.

The brother’s lead was short lived as the Bobcats tied him, 1-1, just 1:04 later with a Taylor House goal.

The teams skated through another scoreless period in the third. The Friars held a 13-6 advantage in shots. The Friars killed a penalty within 3:11 of the final game after Martinson was whistled for a hook, sending the teams to their second overtime of the weekend.

Brooke becker (Orchard Park, NY) was called out for slashing 3:11 in overtime. The Friars played 3 on 4 for the remainder of overtime. Providence killed and Abstreiter made five overtime saves to keep the Bobcats off the board, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.

Abstreiter recorded a new high this season, with 37 saves.

The last time the Friars finished a weekend streak with two overtime draws was at Princeton University on October 20 and 21, 2017. Both games ended in a 2-2 draw. in overtime.
